Steve Selengut, The Income Coach
Retirement Investing
Steve Selengut spent decades successfully managing portfolios for hundreds of clients, growing both their income and their assets. When he transitioned to semi-retirement, he wrote a book and developed services to share his methods with the world, so retirees wouldn't need to scrimp and struggle in retirement.
Challenge
Steve's online presence just wasn't doing justice to the knowledge and services he was offering, or the public speaking he was doing.
He had two different websites, one for his book and one for his financial coaching services. The sites were on two different platforms (GoDaddy site builder and WordPress + Beaver Builder).
His pages held most all the content that he needed to be effective. But, crucial information about what products and services were available, how much they cost, and how to by them was hard to locate. Often, it was buried inside long blocks of text. The navigation menus on the services site didn't reflect the most important aspects of the site. There was no showcase for the dozens of podcast appearances Steve has made to give away his knowledge and help retirees.
The challenge: to distill the contents of two sites into one unified presence that communicated Steve's value, increased access to information and products, and reduced maintenance work and cost.
The homepage on Steve's services site didn't clearly communicate his offerings or his value.
Solution
I replicated Steve's one-page book site as a new page on his services site, then redirected his book site's URL to point to the new page.
On the services site, I created new website navigation focusing on Steve's book, coaching services, financial data subscription product, podcast appearances, and newsletter sign-up: all the things that Steve is doing to share his investing experience with the world.
Individual pages became easier to read and navigate after being redesigned with better headlines, white space, and buttons. Fewer, but better and more relevant, images made pages more appealing, easier to read, and less cluttered.
On the new homepage, I introduced Steve and mirrored the structure of the overall site. That way, visitors new exactly what they were getting. I capped it off with a dynamic new hero image to match his tagline: Market Value Fuels The Ego; Income Fuels The Yacht.
The new pages, including this new homepage, showcase all the Steve has to offer.
Results
Through clearer, cleaner design of navigation, page layout, and calls to action, Steve is now getting the response his hard work warrants.
- Easier, more obvious calls to action make it easier to purchase, subscribe, download, and listen.
- All web traffic focused on one site, not two.
- Easier, lower cost maintenance of the site.
Steve's book page now reflects the success the book is enjoying on Amazon.
